Joanne Hughes, RN BN MEd 

Graduate of Dalhousie Bachelor in Nursing program; and earned a Master's Degree in education focused in Nursing and Health Sciences-Curriculum & Instruction from Saint Francis Xavier University.

She has been a nurse for 39 years in a variety of clinical settings including critical care, emergency, medical/surgical, oncology and dementia care. Before joining the RNPDC, Joanne was an educator with Northwoodcare Group from 2012-2020, where she shared her knowledge, expertise and skills with an inter-professional team who support people living in long term. Joanne is experienced in standards of practice, ethics and policy and procedure development.

Currently, a Master coach in the Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) in dementia care; a specialist in prevention of wounds, early intervention, wound care and healing; a member of the provincial dementia course board, Dementia: Understanding the Journey and is chair of board of directors for the VON community corporation Lunenburg branch.

Joanne loves the great outdoors, hiking, swimming and gardening. Music, reading and cooking are favorite hobbies. Most of all she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
